This is a week late.. but Baby Jory has arrived! Caiden Alexander was born November 5th at 3:34 am. He’s 8 lbs 13oz, 21.5 inches long, and a head that’s 38 cm around. We were in the hospital until Saturday evening. Our discharge was held up a bit because Caiden had a low-grade fever that they were worried was an infection. But after a chest x-ray, three blood tests, and numerous temperature takings, the doctor discharged us Saturday night. [We monitored his temp until a doctor's appointment on Monday and everything was normal... nothing to worry about!]
Since we’ve been home, we’ve had a few visitors. Dad and I are adjusting to this new life as parents. The first couple of night, Caiden seemed to have his days and nights reversed. This resulted in a lot of awake time and feeding every hour or so. Finally, after some advice from friends, we are putting him on a schedule that is working well for everyone. We’re getting more, solid sleep at night and everyone seems a lot happier. We’re loving our little boy. He loves to cuddle and play with Mom and Dad.
We’ve had some learning mistakes so far. The biggest was last night, we thought it would be easier to change his bum in our bed instead of carrying him down the hall the change table. Apparently Caiden thought that the time when his diaper was off would be the time to send an arch of pee up into the air. He successfully wet part of Daddy’s side of the bed. But now our sheets are clean and our mattress has been cleaned as well. And we will no longer be changing his bum in bed… there’s a reason we have a change table!
The other lesson that we had… this one’s more of Daddy’s than mine… was about the tub. We have a tub that can be made smaller for storage [nice in our apartment]. Well you need to pull and lock the outside, but Daddy missed the fact that there is a part in the middle that needs to be pressed down so that water doesn’t leak all over. This then resulted in about a half inch of water all over the countertops in our kitchen! So now we know, push the middle down till it locks. Otherwise, we flood the kitchen!
I’m sure there are many other learning stories I could post… and that I will post as we go.
Thanks to everyone for all the love and support. We are doing wonderful at home and are enjoying having visitors come and meet our beautiful little boy!
[I may post the labor story later once I figure out how to put it so you have the option to read it...]
Here is our little boy:

I mentioned last post that we had been thrown a baby shower by my family last weekend. And that was a wonderful one! Well to top it off, we were given two showers this weekend! One on Saturday by Josh’s family that was great. It was wonderful to see all of his family and to celebrate with them. Then we had one Sunday hosted by two of my good friends. It was a good time with friends and it was nice to see some ladies I hadn’t seen in a long time. And all to celebrate this little one!
After all of the showers, we have more than enough things for Baby! So thank you to everyone! We truly appreciate it and we know that this baby is going to be so loved. We have a few things to pick up, but we have some gift cards that will definitely help in that regard.
And tonight… we pick up the car seat! Yay!
It all seems to be coming so much closer. As I get the room ready, organize clothes and toys, and we get everything we need.. I can’t believe its so close! Only 29 more days till Baby is due.
PS. If you attended any of my showers and have some photos, I would really appreciate them. Its hard to take photos for yourself during the shower. :c)

Wow! Its been awhile since I’ve updated this. I keep meaning to, then something comes up. So here we go. What has happened since June?
Hm. July. We spent about a week in Florida with the family. Lots of good times and hilarity. Its hard to think that next time we’re all down in Florida, we’ll have the baby with us! After that, we celebrated our nephew’s first birthday and went to a wedding of some good friends. At the end of the month, we went on a roadtrip with friends to Massachusetts. We stayed in a small B&B in a little town called Rockport. Go there. Its amazing.
Now August. Celebrated Mom and Gina’s birthdays. Had a shower in Jersey [thanks everyone!] which was really nice and we got some very nice things. Finished school… what a relief! Thesis is done and I have a Master’s degree!
Beyond there. We’ve just been getting ready for Baby. We have a bassinett for the baby to sleep in and got some wonderful things for the baby from a shower in Buffalo [thank you to all of my aunts and cousins!]. Now we’re just trying to make room for Baby in our apartment.
Doctor’s appointments. I’ve seen my OB 3 times so far and everything is looking great! My blood pressure is low, weight is good [only 20ish pounds so far], Baby is head down and measuring perfectly. The baby’s heartrate has been good every time we go. I just had the swap for the Group B strep test today, so we’ll see how that turns out. Overall, the doctor is happy with how things are going.
I’m feeling great! Baby is very active. Josh likes to laugh at me and my belly when the baby really starts going at it. I’m convinced that the inside of my ribs are bruised from the baby kicking me there, but Mom just says its payback since [apparently] all three of us did the same thing to her. I’m feeling very healthy. Just a little tired and breathless, but those are to be expected. I do have a little back pain, but nothing I can’t tolerate [and the doctor says there's nothing we can do about it].
We got a new car! I love driving it and there’s tons of room for Baby and all the things that go along with Baby.
Other than that, everything is going well. I can’t believe we only have 5 weeks left till my due date! I’ll try to stay on top of updating this during those 5 weeks.
And for your viewing pleasure, here are a few pictures that Josh and I had taken of us this weekend.

This might be a dangerous idea…
but…
does anyone have any name suggestions?
Please keep them to serious names. I’m sure you have funny ones, but you can share those with us later.

I just got in from one of the monthly checkups.
The doctor checked me over and everything is looking great! My blood pressure is 100/60 [which is apparently good], and my uterus measure 19 cm.
She went over the ultrasound results and everything looks perfect! Everything is developing the way it should be and looks great! Yippee!!
She could hear the heartbeat and tried to get it so I could too, but I was having difficulties. The baby was kicking the whole time and she started laughing because it was kicking at her.
I don’t go see her until July 17th, so lots of time to relax now.

Its been awhile since we’ve updated, so this post might be quite long!
First, last Saturday, Josh got to feel the baby kick for the first time! We were watching a movie and he just held his hand on my stomach for awhile. Finally he felt it! It also helped that I had eaten a bit of ice cream beforehand… the sugar tends to make the baby kick a lot more. Hehe.
Wednesday, we bought a Bebe Sounds Prenatal Heart Listener. Its like a little sound amplifier. Apparently you can hear the baby’s heartbeat, hiccups, and even when it moves. After about 20 minutes of trying, we got to hear the heartbeat! Its really hard to get it to work right now since its meant to be used during the third trimester. So to pinpoint the heartbeat and then to keep the thing quiet enough and still enough to hear it, its quite a challenge. I keep trying and haven’t been able to find it again, so we’ll see how it keeps going.
Then Friday! We had our 20 week ultrasound! We got to see the baby moving around. We even saw the jaw open and close. We got to see the back, the face, the ribs, the legs, the arms, the hands, the feet… everything! It was so amazing to sit there and watch our little one move around. What I wouldn’t give for an ultrasound machine in my own house!!
The technician said that our dating is still right. She said that the baby is 6 inches from head to bum [not including legs], and weighs just under a pound right now.
Here are the pictures that we got from the ultrasound:
This is a profile shot. You can see the baby’s hand just above its face. And if you look close enough, you can count 5 little fingers!!

This is another profile shot of the baby. Its hand seems to be lying on its forehead.

This one is a straight on shot of the baby’s face. Turn your head sideways, you’ll see it.

Apart from all that, everything is going well.
I’ve been able to eat little bits of meat now which is pretty awesome. I’m working my way up to a nice, juicy hamburger!
Oh. One more thing. When we were in Buffalo, the baby’s Uncle Joey thought it would be fun to poke me in the belly button [something that I hate], and then tell me that the baby gave him a high-five. Well now Josh does that all the time [thanks Joey].
I’ll try to post a belly shot soon, I’ve gotten a bit bigger lately. :c)

I felt the first definite kick last night!! And now as I sit in class [I know.. tsk tsk], I can feel it kicking and moving around!
This is so exciting!

Things are going well so far. We had a ton of fun dancing the night away at Dan and Joy’s wedding and then the next week at Mel and Frank’s wedding. I’m sure the baby will love dancing after those nights. :c)
I made an appointment yesterday for my 20[ish] week ultrasound. So June 12 I go in and the baby will get checked out. This one will be an anatomical exam just to make sure all the organs and such are looking good so far. After that, on the 16th, I’m heading in to see my doctor for this month’s exam.
Here’s a picture from last week [18 weeks] of my baby bump!

Only 21 more weeks to go till we meet our Baby Jory!!

My blood work came back earlier this week. I was told that everything looks fine. The only thing of concern is that my B12 level is low. Apparently that’s common when you aren’t eating meat. So I’m taking sub-lingual B12, in lieu of the shots, which tastes absolutely disgusting but I figure is less painful than getting a needle.
My doctor prescribed an antihistimine that is safe to take during pregnancy [Claritin apparently is not]. So I’m pretty happy about that. I’ll test it with cats soon at Jenn’s house to see if it works that well.
We’re waiting for results on a couple other tests. Otherwise, everything is looking amazing! I can’t wait for our 20 week [or so] ultrasound to see our little one again!
